Angie is a 28yr old patient who underwent tumescent liposculpture to her hips, thighs, abdo and arms and took the time to write her experiences down and now share it with other patients thinking about the procedure
Night Before: busy, preparing, plastic over bed, old towels, undies, dressings
DAY 1
| 7.00am | Bit nervous |
| 8.30am | Get to hospital, escorted to room, observations done by nurse, gown |
| 9.15am | Dr comes, does markings |
| 9.30am | Theatre – drip, monitor – given drug and felt mildly lightheaded but awake. occassional feelings as incision made, not uncomfortable, feel numb like I’m having an internal massage. Can feel cannula move along tissues, occasional slight pain at edges. Good chat with the nurse, crossword puzzle, rolling over, feel quite good. Near end, starting to feel it a bit. Not unbearable, moved into odd position for perfection. Heart racing, a little shaky. With it mentally. Suit put on, dressings. Walk back to room. |
| 12.00noon | Another pee. Laydown calmly wait to be picked up. Heart still racing, hungry. Tea and chicken sandwiches. |
| 1.00pm | Observations checked, heart rate up but slowing. Chatting happily. Feel stiff and Slightly achey. Dr comes and visits. |
| 2.00pm |
Car ride home makes me nauseated. Feel better after sit down and drink some diet soda. Put washing in dryer and watch video. Chat with friend. Sleeping a lot. Oops, forgot cover over lounge and have oozed some fluid onto it. Put sofa cover in wash (cold water only). Soak Napisan first. |
| 4.00pm | Friend leaves, feeling a little drained now, but hungry. Eat fruit and wee constantly since home. Must be getting rid of excess fluid. Resting to let abdo stay flat. Bandage over arm aching. Still seeping but no point in changing clothes moment. Watch videos. |
| 11.00pm | No longer tired. Empty dryer, read book |
| 1.00am | Sleep, uncomfortable sleep, aches when I roll over. |
DAY 2
| 8.30am | Awake, stopped seeping. Aching when roll over still and when I get up. Overall just like I’ve done a workout – mainly stiff. |
| 9.30am | Make tea, yoghurt, watched videos. |
| 11.30am | Prepare for shower. Take off garment. Feels weird as if I have 2 bodies. Painful to walk small distance without suit. Shower, dry areas, leave on stockings on arms. Betadine and change dressings No padding. Garment – preen, napisan & soak. |
| 12.00noon |
To housewarming party. Ache to get in car. Drive safely. At party 1 glass wine (shouldn’t really) but had no pain killers. Not moving |
| 3.00pm |
Starting to feel drained. Home via shops, exhausted and a little dizzy. ?? overdone it. Cup of tea, rest, panadol x 2. achey arms |

DAY 3
| 9.00am | Rang doctor, still puffy. At doctor suggestion review bandage position, elevation, massage lymphatics. Rang massage friend who will begin tomorrow. |
| 10.00am | Coffee, yoghurt ready for 4km walk. Feel physically ready to take on work. Mild body aches. Shoes tight, feet obviously swollen, worst thing is having to wear long sleeves and pants in heat. Small price to pay. Good pace set arms bent and swinging. Forgot and ran across road. Bizarre sensations as skin flops against muscle. Not painful just uncomfortable. Walked until felt had enough and turned back. (2 ½ km) walk took 45 minutes. Neighbour at door, stood talking, tended roses for a few minutes. |
