Medical Insurance
IS COSMETIC MEDICINE COVERED BY MEDICARE or PRIVATE HEALTH?
Unfortunately cosmetic procedures do not attract a rebate from Medicare.
Medicare, does however recognize the consultation process and will provide rebate, it will also acknowledge larger vein sclerotherapy and will repay a portion of the cost of treatment for up to five visits. Any lesions that are sent for pathology will also qualify for a rebate.
Private health funds do not recognize general cosmetic medicine but most will rebate any hospital stay or day care facility. Patients need to check with their own private health care funds for details.
